FORWARD PARTY OF VIRGINIA: SAVE ACT GETS IT HALF RIGHT ON VOTING INTEGRITY

RICHMOND, VA — The Forward Party of Virginia issued the following statement on the newly passed SAVE Act in the House of Representatives, calling it a well-intentioned but incomplete fix to a real problem: ensuring only U.S. citizens vote in federal elections.

“Yes, voting must be secure. But the SAVE Act risks blocking eligible voters by requiring documentation many don’t readily have, without first making it accessible,” said Eric Richards, State Party Chairman. Richards continued, "The legislation is particularly onerous on female voters who are married or divorced and who legally changed their last names from their maiden names and their birth certificates."

The Forward Party of Virginia proposes a balanced, four-point solution:

  1. Free citizenship documentation for all
  2. Modern, automatic voter registration
  3. Agency accountability for delays and barriers
  4. Incentives for civic participation

“Security and access are not a tradeoff—we can and must have both,” said State Party Spokesperson, Sophia Nelson. “The SAVE Act skips the hard part: building the infrastructure people need to comply with. In Virginia, we will elect our first female Governor come November 2025. And we must not support any legislation that seeks to disenfranchise women voters in the Commonwealth."

The party will host a LIVE Fireside chat with Forward Party's co-founder, Andrew Yang. on April 23, 2025 where among many things, we will discuss real solutions that protect both the integrity of our elections and the rights of all citizens.
