Maryland Forward Comic Book CoverWhat are Open Primaries?

"Why do people hate them?"

"Why do people love them?"

"Should we support them?"

At our June monthly meeting we are discussing Open Primaries. We'll start with an overview of "Closed Primaries" vs "Open Primaries" vs "Single Primaries", "Final Five", and "Final Two". That will lead us to some of the problems solved by Open Primaries plus some of the problems that people have with Open Primaries.

Then we'll debate the merits of each type using our Prioritized Epic Problems (PEP) Debate format. In a PEP Debate we focus on Solving Problems instead of Implementing Solutions. What's the difference? Join us and see. It's different enough that it's tricky to explain, but you'll get the hang of it, usually in about 15 minutes.

The core rule of Prioritized Problems is:
"Don't make a higher order problem worse when solving a lower one."

Join us, learn more about the debate behind Open Primaries, and learn tips about how to talk intelligently about it with others.

Will you come?
