On Thursday, December 8th, we’ll shed some light on that during a fun-filled ranked-choice vote from among six of Jersey City’s restaurants!
Join us and our sponsors Voter Choice NJ, New Jersey Appleseed, and Councilman James Solomon at City Hall (280 Grove Street) to kick off the holidays with a ranked-choice vote on the city’s favorite restaurants. Ranked-choice voting (RCV) is a simple upgrade to the way we vote: it allows voters to rank their choices in order of preference, and ensures that the winner has the support of a majority of voters. RCV is being considered in cities and states across the country as a way to improve our voting process, and this ‘mock election’ of Jersey City restaurants is the perfect way to show people how it works!
This hybrid event will include campaign speeches and posters for each of the “candidates,” and those present will vote on paper ballots. Counting will be done right there, in view of all, as virtual attendees vote on electronic polling software. With the results combined, one restaurant will win bragging rights as “the voters’ choice”, and six lucky attendees will win gift certificates to the participating establishments.
This midweek after-work event (from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 8th) will bring a smile to your face, introduce you to some great restaurants in Jersey City, and show ranked-choice voting in action.
We look forward to seeing you at this fun and informative “election”—in person or on screen!
