Judge Jonathan Cooper - Justice of the Peace for North Las Vegas Justice Court, Department 2

Judge Jonathan Cooper serves as Justice of the Peace for North Las Vegas Justice Court, Department 2, after being elected in 2024. Before taking the bench, he served as a Domestic Violence Temporary Protective Order Hearing Master with the Eighth Judicial District Court, helping protect victims of domestic violence, and built extensive legal experience as both a Chief Deputy District Attorney and a Clark County Public Defender. His broad background on both sides of the courtroom reflects a deep commitment to fairness, justice, and the rule of law.

A lifelong Nevadan and graduate of Eldorado High School, Judge Cooper is also a proud Army veteran who served as an Aviation Officer after earning his commission through the Army's Early Commissioning Program. Following law school, he returned home to Las Vegas to dedicate his legal career to serving his community. His experience in public service, the military, and the legal profession has shaped a thoughtful, balanced approach to leadership on the bench.

Beyond his judicial duties, Judge Cooper has demonstrated a strong commitment to serving the community through youth mentoring, veteran advocacy, homeless outreach, and the Truancy Diversion Program. He also oversees North Las Vegas's Veterans' Court, a specialty court that helps veterans address underlying challenges and successfully reintegrate into their communities. Through his dedication to public service, compassion, and accountability, Judge Cooper continues to make a meaningful impact on the lives of North Las Vegas residents.
