Jennifer Naperala's Profile
Jennifer Naperala is a candidate for city council member of Chesapeake, VA. She was born in Washington, DC to a family of sheet-metal workers and firefighters, but she moved to Chesapeake with her family in the late 1990s. She began teaching high school English at same time and has been in the classroom since. Jennifer is the mom of three young adults and serves on the executive boards of the Chesapeake Education Association - where she serves as Chair of the Legislative Action Committee - and Chesapeake NAACP Chapter 7049 - where she serves as Chair of the Education Committee.
Jennifer realized that the City of Chesapeake is highly stratified from her perspective as a classroom teacher. While considering possible paths to resolve several citizen-identified problems, Jennifer understood that Chesapeake's at-large voting system is the root cause of Chesapeake's stratification. Jennifer is campaigning for a seat on city council because of her ability to meet people where they are and using that starting point as the foundation for a productive relationship. She anticipates that trait will serve her and Chesapeake residents well, as they collaborate to improve their city in vital, citizen-centered ways.
