Sonja Buckmeier's Profile
Sonja Buckmeier has been a dedicated member of the St. Michael community for over 25 years. Growing up in Eagle Lake near Mankato, she learned the values of compassion, perseverance, and hard work from her middle-class family. Sonja earned a Business Administration degree from Mankato State University as a first-generation graduate, funding her education through job wages, scholarships, and loans. Committed to public education, Sonja has served on bond and levy committees, PTO boards, as an election judge, and as a substitute teacher. Sonja aims to represent District 30A in the Minnesota House, focusing on building safe, supportive, and inclusive communities where all residents have the resources they need to thrive.
Sonja is facing Republican incumbent Walter Hudson in the general election. While Sonja represents practicality, collaboration, and dedication to her community, Walter has done the opposite. Hudson has compared Minnesota’s vaccine mandate to slavery, specifically attacking medical professionals for their work.
