Best practices for outreach
- Lead with listening: Ask what frustrates them about politics, then connect their concerns to Forward’s focus on better rules and less polarization.
- Keep it light: Aim for curious conversations, not debates; if things get tense, back off and leave the door open.
- Always include your link: On texts, DMs, or follow-up emails, send the unique link right away and a brief one-sentence reminder of why it matters.
Key Forward values to mention
- Respecting individual freedoms, rejecting hate, and removing barriers so people can reach their potential.
- Thriving communities: Strong local economies and safe, flourishing neighborhoods where people can live a good life.
- Vibrant democracy: More choices on the ballot, fairer election rules, and leaders who respect democratic norms.
Handling common questions
“Are you more left or right?”
- “Forward includes people from different backgrounds who agree on fixing the system first: more choices for voters, fairer elections, and leaders who tell the truth and work together.”
“What’s your platform?”
- “Forward is values-based rather than a rigid top-down platform. Local leaders and candidates focus on practical, data-driven solutions for their communities, within shared values like democracy, accountability, and collaboration.”
“Are you trying to spoil elections?”
- “Forward’s goal is to improve the system so voters have better choices and candidates have to compete by solving problems, not just attacking each other. That includes reforms like ranked-choice voting and open primaries so people can vote their values without fear.”
Personal story formula
- “I got involved with Forward because __________ (what broke your trust in the current system).”
- “What I like about Forward is __________ (e.g., more choices for voters, focus on local solutions, working across parties).”
- “I’m asking you to sign up today so we can __________ (build ballot access, support better candidates, show there’s a real alternative).”
